I am not actively looking for undergraduates right now (August 2003), but I am interested in taking on students whose interests mesh with my current research projects. Look at my projects on the Algorithmic Robotics Lab page and corresponding research papers on my Publications page.
Students must have a strong programming background; I generally expect at least the Data Structures and Algorithms course (CSCI 2300). Students should also be capable with UNIX systems since that is the primary OS in my lab. Experience at the hardware/software interface is a plus, as is previous experience with robotics, embedded systems, and microcontrollers. Prior experience in academic research is also good.
I prefer students who have taken a class with me, either CSCI 4150 Introduction to AI or (preferrably) CSCI 4190 Introduction to Robotic Algorithms.
I'd encourage prospective graduate students interested in robotics to look at Professors Srinivas Akella and Jeff Trinkle.
