The first step in displaying a web site is to generate the site's webgraph. Webgraph generation is carried out by the W3Pal web robot, webbot. To execute webbot, start W3Pal by typing ./w3pal in the program directory. This command will start the W3Pal Browser with a blank workspace window.

Next, select the File menu in the W3Pal Browser Window and click the "New" tab. If a graph of the web site we wish to view already exists we can select Load Graph or Load Graph URL to load it from a local computer or a location on the internet.

From the "New" submenu, select the "Webbot" option. This will display the webbot dialog box. This submenu is also used to open a new Navigator, Browser, or Editor window. W3Pal allows us to have several different windows open at once. For instance, we could be viewing a web site in the Navigator, Browser, and Editor at the same time.

The webbot dialog box has several options for constructing the desired webgraph. The first option, URL, selects the URL of the start page. Depth, specifies the maximum depth of the generated graph (calculated from the start node). Num Doc, specifies that maximum number of documents the graph can have; webbot stops when the maximum number of documents is reached. Prefix selects the string prefix of the urls that define the web site. Documents not within this prefix are considered external to the web site.

Finally we select the name and location of the graph file that we are going to be saving. This is done by opening the File menu on the webbot dialog and selecting the Set File name... menu option.

Once the needed information has been added, click the "Run Webbot" button to instruct webbot to map the requested web site. When webbot is finished, you will be able to load the new data into the W3Pal browser.
