It is often useful to look at a specific subsets of a given graph. W3Pal allows you to do this in several ways.
For the purpose of selecting a single vertex which may later serve as the focus of other selections, we must go into Single Vertex Selection Mode. This is achieved by right-clicking on the graph window and selecting the first option 'Single Vertex Selection Mode'.
A single vertex may then be selected by left-clicking on the desired vertex
In order to spot the selected vertex it may be helpeful to highlight the selected vertices. W3Pal will do this for you by right-clicking on the graph window and selecting 'Highlight Selected Vertices'.
A Tree may be selected out of a graph by first selecting Tools|Compute Tree. You will then be asked to select a vertex as the root. By left-clicking on any vertex in the graph it will be selected and it's tree will be computed and selected.
You may use regular expressions to select vertices based on their:
To search for nodes from any of the classes listed, you must first select that class and go into Single Vertex Selection Mode (as described above). Be sure the 'Tools' menu is available (by clicking on the tools button in the bottom left of the application window) and enter a regular expression for searching in the Regular Expression box. Pressing ENTER will perform the search and the matched vertices/edges will be selected.

The Tools drop-down menu lists several tools for performing various algorithms on the given graph. The results of these computations may be used to select vertices by right-clicking on the graph window and selecting the last option Other Select Options. The dialog box which appears allows you to select vertices based on this output as well as several other options.
With a subset of the graph selected you may wish to look only at that those vertices. Clicking the Browse button will create a new W3Pal browser with a view of only the selected vertices.
