• Assignment 6 final standings are posted on the Assignment 6 page. You can see any of the 680 transcripts from the official rounds.

• I will have office hours on Monday December 4 from 4 to 6pm instead of Tuesday December 5 because of the assignment.

• Assignment 7 is out; due Tuesday December 5. Late solutions will only be accepted until Friday December 8 at 10am when solutions will be handed out.

• Hints for Assignment 7
  • If you didn't get the handout on Bayesian learning, there are extra copies outside my office door.
  • You only have to use normalization once to solve part (b) of problem 2, but there are other places where you have to use the fact (once, somewhat creatively) that P(A) + P(~A) = 1.

• Assignment 5 is out. It is due on Tuesday October 31. See the Assignment 5 information page for information on Assignment 5.

• Friday October 13: some extensions on assignment 4, and a new oracle to come; see the assignment 4 page for details.

• Here's a list of midterm topics. Last year's midterm is available online (postscript, pdf).

• Friday October 6: I've updated the support code for assignment 4. Please download the new versions from the Assignment 4 page.

• The midterm examination will be from 6 to 8pm (on Tuesday October 17) in DCC 318 because the registrar cannot provide an acceptable room during our class time. I have explored a few other possibilities, but nothing was available.

  If you have a conflict with this time, you must notify me by email by the end of the day Tuesday October 10. (Let me know why you cannot attend the regular exam.) An alternate exam will be scheduled on either Monday the 16th or Wednesday the 17th.

  A list of topics that the midterm will cover will be handed out in class. This list will be available online by mid-next week. Last year's midterm will be available online at the same time.

• Assignment 4 is due Friday October 13. See the Assignment 4 information page for details.

• Since there is no "Tuesday" the week of October 10, I will hold office hours on Wednesday the 12th from 4 to 6pm. Since the midterm is on Tuesday the 17th, I will not hold office hours that day but will have office hours on Monday the 16th from 4 to 6pm.

• Assignments revised: Assignment 3 will be due on Tuesday 9/26. You can come to class to request, as usual, an automatic extension until 5pm. The first tier late penalty will be midnight Wednesday night 9/27.

  Assignment 4 will be handed out on Tuesday 9/26 and due on Friday 10/13. There will not be an Assignment 5 before the midterm.

• I've created a page of tips for emacs, Scheme and debugging your code. It's a little sketchy now, but covers the bases. See the Scheme page for the link.

• Let me know if you have a copy of the Grillmeyer (Scheme) text but don't want it (I'm told it's now too late to return books to the bookstore). Also let me know if you want to buy the Grillmeyer text (I'm told that the bookstore has run out of them). I know that there are some of both sorts of people out there, so email me and I'll match you up.

• I've put the course policies online. Note the revision (as discussed in class on 9/5) to the late policy regarding automatic extensions.

• The CS passwords I handed out in class on Friday (9/1) are your Kerberos passwords. The CS department is in transition to Kerberos; for now, both your Kerberos password and your old CS account password (if you had one) will work. At some point in the future, only your Kerberos password will.

• Assignment 1 is out; due Friday September 8. The first tier (10%) late penalty deadline has been extended to 10am on Monday September 11.
