Introduction to Graphical Human-Machine Interfaces
Spring 1997
Term Paper Topic Selection
Confirmed Topic Due: Friday, March 21, 1997

As described in the course syllabus you are required to write a research paper on some aspect of user interfaces, drawing from papers found in the scientific literature and to also prepare a oral presentation.

More details about the format of the paper will be provided later. However, you should select your topic by the week after Spring Break so that we can get a better idea of what topics to cover in the remaining weeks of the semester.

You will work in pairs to investigate some aspect of human-computer interaction, by reading one or more papers presented during the past year at a major conference. Together, you will write a research paper summarizing what you have learned, and present your findings to the rest of the class. The specific selections will be determined in accordance to your own personal interests, in consultation with the instructor.

The readings will be drawn from the following sources, all of which are available for perusal in the my office:

The table of contents from the proceedings of each of these conference has been attached. Should you wish to examine a particular paper before making a decision on your topic selection, please drop by my office.

You should send me which paper you are interested in by e-mail no later than Friday, March 21, 1997 by 5PM.Paper/Topic selections will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis. You may not choose a paper that has already been chosen by another pair of students. You may e-mail me with your topic choice at wiseb@cs.rpi.edu. The sooner you do so the more likely you will get the topic of your choice. You will receive a confirmation from me indicating whether your topic is ok or has already been chosen. If you wish, you may give me a prioritized list of two or three topics/papers.
