Graduate ProgramTransferring from Another Rensselaer Degree ProgramApplicants to Troy campus Computer Science graduate degree programs from other graduate degree programs at Rensselaer must meet the same requirements as applicants from outside Rensselaer. The Troy campus graduate degree program is extremely competitive and emphasizes research. In order to be admitted, students must be invited to join one of the department's research groups. Students in the Hartford or distance programs should apply through the Admissions office. Admissions will arrange to have the students' documents sent to the Computer Science department. To supplement the documents already on file, these students must submit two new recommendations and a new statement of background and goals which includes information on which research group the student wishes to join. Students must also submit GRE General test scores if none are already on file. Students currently enrolled as graduate students in other departments may apply using a change of status form if the following documents are provided: 1) the student's file, including all documents required for admission, must be obtained from the student's current department, 2) The student must write a statement of purpose regarding his/her plans for the Computer Science degree, and 3) a faculty member in the Computer Science Department must endorse the admission. Students in the Troy campus Computer Science MS program who wish to join the PhD program must obtain the endorsement of the Computer Science faculty member who will be the student's PhD research supervisor. This faculty member may request additional materials such as a new statement of background and goals or a recommendation letter. Once the faculty endorsement has been obtained, the PhD may be added using the change of status form.
