LDAP problems

One of the campus LDAP servers run by CMT,, started having disk issues late last week. Saturday, it effectively died. As it turns out, a lot of (linux) systems ultimately depended on gondor and these need to be repointed at other servers. The preferred choice is using SSL or, temporarily if necessary, over the insecure port, 389. We have two new servers purchased this summer and will be re-architecting the LDAP servers to make it more stable.

Some of the services that have been affected by the gondor outage are:

JASIG CAS authentication and servers using shibboleth for authentication \x96 these were fixed Saturday Wireless and VPN authentication \x96 these were fixed Saturday Email authentication (SMTP auth and lists) - these were fixed Saturday Software licensing \x96 this should be fixed as of this morning \x96 this should be fixed as of this morning PAM based logins to various linux servers \x96 some have been fixed but some have not been (primarily IACS, Library and CMT servers) Xerox machines \x96 some xerox machines on campus have been set to use LDAP. This is an unsupported configuration from our end
