The CS mailing lists transitioned to the Sympa server in the VCC, and are accessible from https://cs.sympa.rpi.edu/.
The new server has a lot more features and options including:
authenication for non-RPI address management
bounce tracking and owner notification of excessive bad addresses on the list
differing levels of list visibility
ability to quickly see which lists you are subscribed to
ability to blacklist a sender on individual mailing lists
the role of moderator is distinct from the role of owner and should be assigned when your list is set up.
you can have more than one owner or moderator, but need to click to save changes to reveal the next set of blanks to fill in
A privileged owner can always subscribe new users and make list configuration changes, but a normal owner has fewer options (new owners are assigned a "normal" profile by default)
Moderators review and approve messages before they are posted to the list if moderation is enabled.
For now, ownership of lists on the new server is being set as your RCS userid and password.
Membership can be assigned by the owner to CS, RCS, or outside email addresses.
CS faculty and staff may log in with their fully qualified CS email address and RCS password if it is the address they send from on the exchange server (otherwise they need to use their RCS or outside email address or contact the list owner for changes)
Users outside the department may control their membership by authenticating to the server with their email address and can click to be sent a password for use on the server.
The default reply setting for mailing lists is to reply to the list. This may or may not be what you want. You have a choice of selecting all, the list, the sender, or a set email address. To change it, select the Admin interface, Edit List Config, then Sending/receiving setup. "Reply address" is about halfway down the page.
