Avoiding Web Scams
Always suspect requests for information that you did not initiate.
No legitimate entity should ever ask for your password or personal information over email.
Labstaff and other campus administrators have privileged access and will not require your password to diagnose problems.
Banks & businesses have your account information on file and would never ask for it over an insecure medium like email.
Never click on links supplied in an email message asking for personal information, they may redirect you somewhere unexpected.
Navigate to the company's main site if you think you may actually need to update your information.
Safer option is to type the company's web URL into the location bar at the top of your browser.
Safest option is to find the company phone number on a monthly statement and call customer service directly.
can be installed for added security
If you are in doubt, feel free to contact labstaff or stop by Amos Eaton 131
