Faculty Position

The Department of Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy NY invites applications for a full-time tenure track or tenured faculty position at the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level in the area of "cyber security," including but not limited to networked and distributed systems security, anonymity and privacy, malware analysis and forensics, trusted systems, and cyber warfare.

Applicants for this position must demonstrate an outstanding record of research accomplishments and a strong committment to teaching. An ideal applicant would have a primary focus in systems with a strong background in theory. Successful candidates will have duties that include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in the department, developing and maintaining robust programs of research and scholarship, and service to the department, the School of Science and to Rensselaer.

We seek highly collaborative applicants with strong technical vision and a focus on emerging 21st century technologies and challenges. At minimum, candidates for Assistant Professor must have a Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent in computer science or closely related field, along with the ability to demonstrate, through their records of accomplishments, promise of future distinction in scholarship and education. Candidates for Associate Professor must meet the educational requirements of the Assistant Professor, and also must demonstrate a record of the following accomplishments, achieved over a minimum of three (3) years of professional academic experience. To be considered for an appointment as Professor, candidates must be eligible for tenure, and meet the educational requirements of the Assistant Professor. Candidates must demonstrate having achieved the following in a minimum of at least 7 years of professional academic experience: academic leadership; a nationally or internationally recognized record of excellence in scholarship; a sustained level of high quality in educational activities that go beyond teaching and advising; and a sustained level of service to the department, the Institute, and the profession.

As part of the School of Science at Rensselaer, which is undergoing a broad expansion (http://science.rpi.edu/), the Department of Computer Science has 23 tenure and tenure-track faculty and excellent undergraduate, master's and PhD programs involving over 700 total students. The department maintains strong interdisciplinary research efforts, bolstered by the Institute for Data Exploration and Applications, the Center for Computational Innovations, the Data Science Research Center, the Network Science and Engineering Center, the Tetherless World Constellation, and the Center for a Digital Society.
