Abstract:
People are constantly trying to find the right information in the sea of available data and act on it. To do this effectively with the growing amount of information we must look to the fields of informatics and information visualization. Informatics seeks to extract structure from information sources using automated algorithms such as text analysis and clustering. It is important that these algorithms scale to large data sources. Information visualization takes the results of informatics analysis and presents them to a human in a way that allows him or her to take appropriate action. This presentation will address recently added capabilities of the open-source Visualization Toolkit (VTK - www.vtk.org) in these areas of scalable informatics and information visualization.
