Sanmay Das joins the Computer Science Dept.
|
Welcome! The CS Data Science Group brings together a diverse set of faculty which addresses all aspects of data science from statistical and high-performance issues in data mining to social network modeling and analysis to approximation and randomized algorithms for huge data sets. The tools and algorithms being developed are currently being applied in areas of bioinformatics (motif discovery, protein folding and misfolding, phylogenetic analysis of DNA micro-array data for ancestry discovery, efficient algorithms for finding transport proteins in a general protein database), astroinformatics (automated unsupervised discovery of spatial structure in the Milky Way), efficient algorithms for price discovery and risk analysis in financial markets, and identification of structure and dynamics in social networks. The Data Science group is growing. We have recently added Sanmay Das to the group who brings expertise in learning in complex multi-agent systems, and the group as a whole supports 13 PhD students.
