Add points doesn't need to be to a specific image. It should, however, be on top of all of the image layers, and have the same options (view on/off, lock/unlock). Maybe just a layer (or multiple layers) of chemical analyses. While points all fit onto the grid, they will be better located by viewing several different images, and thus should not be hidden when a different image is moved to the top of the stack.
