Data Versioning

Changes to the public data are rare and possible only by the metpetdb admin. In case of such a change, there will be a commend added to the changed object describing the change.

Changes to the private data will be more frequent and will be stored as a snapshot of each version. The versioning implies that any time data are changed by an edit, a snapshot of the previous version is stored as the previous version. The following data will be automatically included in this versioning system:

• Samples
• Subsamples
• Images
• Chemical analyses

The updates to the Image map will not be automatically included in the versioning system. Instead, users will have the ability to manually create a snapshot. This will create a copy of the current version and assign a new version number to the current version.

Users will have the option of viewing the previous version of the data items they own or they have read access to in a project.

The owner of a data item has the right to make a previous version of the data the current version.
