OPEN WORLD UNDERGRADUATE FELLOWSHIPS & COMPETITIONS
$2,000/semester $4,000/summer + materials/supplies + prizes

Competing teams of undergraduate students are invited to submit research proposals that use open source software in combination with other technologies to solve the following list of Challenge Projects:
1. Safer Neighborhoods: Groupware for collectively improving neighborhood safety
2. Disaster Recovery: Making recovery from disasters and emergencies robust
3. Childhood Learning: Innovative learning tools & content for one laptop per child (OLPC), Educational “programming is fun” projects for K-12 outreach, & GP-GPU computing for hi-definition remote education
4. Handicapped Access: Enabling visually impaired citizens to navigate inside buildings and campuses (using RFID, smartphones, handhelds, GPS)
5. Breaking barriers: Open source tools to break down cross-disciplinary communication barriers
6. Civil Societies: Electronic Voting, civil e-societies, public accountability, and e-governance
How it works:
Submit a 3-page proposal by September 21, 2007 to the contacts below. Include resume’s for all team members, and a 1-page budget for the project Funded teams will be notified September 28, 2007 Open competitions will be held once a year (date and time TBA) Winning teams will receive awards on the day of the competitions
