Home Directory Access Problems
If you log in and see a message along the lines of:
- Could not chdir to home directory /cs/${your userid}: Permission denied
Home directories are being restored from tape, but it is a slow process (3G/hour average) and there are over 2000 accounts on the system. If you really need to log in to work on something and don't have a home directory you can utilize some scratch space on the following machines:
- pennsylvania.grid.cs.rpi.edu
- newjersey.grid.cs.rpi.edu
- georgia.grid.cs.rpi.edu
- delaware.grid.cs.rpi.edu
cd into
/local/scratch0/${your userid} and create files within it to keep it from being seen by other users. The space will be cleared out once home directories are restored, so don't expect anything to stay around there.
Restores are complete as of 10/20/2010 at 8:26am.
