Home Directory Outage

We were having trouble with the hard drives in the raid array, and the progress that had been made on restores was lost.
An older copy of web pages is now available for most people.
We installed new disks and bypassed the raid controller.
Mirror initialization complete and home directory restores started. Faculty accounts have been restored first to try to minimize impact on courses. Partially restored home directories will be mounted read-only to prevent loss of data.
shortly before noon the server became unresponsive again. The file system recovered and we will continue restores while trying to do an autopsy once the server is fully up.
Server crashed again at 3:15am but is back in service.
