Junior Year

After having rejected the idea of going abroad Junior Year (I decided that while I could and would travel throughout the rest of my life, this was my only change to be at Wellesley, and I didn't want to lose any of it), I spent my whole year at Wellesley. In fact, more than an academic year, as I spent the majority of the summer on campus, which was a whole lot of fun--my friends Carrie, Heather, Jess, and T were all on campus for the summer, and I was able to visit Lindsay for a weekend in DC, where she was, and she spent about two weeks up with us towards the end of the summer. The summer was great, as it was very peaceful, non-stressful, and I got to spend a lot of time hanging out with my friends, walking around the lake, and just generally enjoying the summer and lack of school at Wellesley. Junior year marked my first move out of Severance, and I moved into Shafer Hall. Lindsay and I lived right across from each other at the end of the Second Floor Alley, and Heather had the room directly below Lindsay, while T lived around the corner from us. Yelena and Mary Ellen were also both in Shafer, though only for a semester each, as they both spent a semester abroad; Jessi, a good friend of Aida's, was downstairs as well. Everyone else was scattered: Aida, Jessie, and Carrie all lived in Munger, while Jess was in Claflin, where we had all lived over the summer. We also had some friends in a Hemlock apartment on campus, where we had a few excellent parties. Junior year was overall a lot calmer of a year than sophomore had been. Heather was off-campus a lot, and Lindsay and I spent a lot of time hanging out in T's room. I went to Ireland with my parents for spring break of that year, which was a really good trip. Towards the end of the year, Aida and I started hanging out a lot, writing and reading Xena fan fiction, and drinking Heineken. We also spent a lot of time with Carrie towards the end of the year. Spring Weekend was quite possibly the highlight of the year, as Liz Phair, my favorite singer EVER, played the Spring Weekend concert, which was just incredible.

In terms of school, I continued my CS and history split. First semester, I took Eng 266 (Early Modern American Literature), Hist 244 (History of Modern France, 1978-1981), CS 231 (Fundamental Algorithms), and Econ 226 (Education, Welfare, and Taxes). Second semester, I took Hist 356 (Seminar: Russian History [1920s]), Econ 204 (US Economic History), CS 251 (Programming Languages), and Hist 239 (From Empire to Empire: British History 1200 to 1600).
