About My Work
I am the Manager of Student Affairs for the
Computer Science Department at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
What does a Manager of Student Affairs do? I answer all sorts of
questions from prospective and current students. I focus more
on the graduate program, with Dr. Ingalls more involved with the
undergraduate program, but I am also hapy to help undergraduates.
Some of the things I do include:
- Graduate student recruitment: coordinator for department
recruitment efforts and department representative for
Admissions Office efforts.
- Advise undergraduates about graduate school
admissions (applying to RPI or elsewhere)
- Manage student records. Monitor graduate student
progress.
- Organize events for graduate students such as
orientation and mixers.
- Organize advising fair for undergraduates.
- Assist students with administrative processes. Help
incoming and new graduate students find their way.
- Chair department's Graduate Recruiting Committee, serve
on department's Undergraduate Curriculum, Graduate Curriculum, and
Web Committees, and serve on Admissions Office's Graduate
Programs and Services Committee.
- Manage graduate admissions processes.
- Update web pages and print publications.
- Assign advisors, keys, student offices, and graduate TA positions.
