The Tar Command
To untar a downloaded file on an RCS machine:

make sure you have write access to the directory you are
in
-
type tar xfv <fileprefix>.tar
-
a subdirectory called <fileprefix> will be created
in your directory
-
the <fileprefix> subdirectory will contain a number
of source files that you can examine
Note: the examples have been tested with
perl (version 5.004_04) on an RCS IBM workstation.
