Thyagaraja Aradhana: The 7th Thyagaraja Aradhana will be conducted on Sunday May 11 at the Hindu Temple, Albany. This is, as per the tradition, a joint program with the Temple. It is also held with support from Albany-Schenectady League of Arts. The featured artist for the Aradhana will be Srimathi M.S. Sheela (Vocal) with Srimathi Charulatha Ramanujam on violin Sri Ananthakrishna Shrama on mridangam and Arun Kumar on Morsing. There will be Pancharatna rendering in the morning and Shiv Kalyanaraman is coordinating this event, Please contact him if you wish to participate. Vocal concert by Malladi Brothers The concert is on Friday May 23, 2003. More details will follow soon. . We look forward to your support by way of attendance and financial support to conduct these major programs. Other classical music Events Master Sashank’s Flute Concert on April 4, 2003. Despite the ice storm, we had a reasonable turnout for Sashank’s concert. The concert was excellent, with a fine ragam tanam pallavi in Malayamarutham. S H E E L A - Vocal M S SHEELA is a Carnatic Classical Vocalist and is a TOP RANK artist of AIR and Doordarshan , Disciple of Sangeetha Kalanidhi R K SRIKANTAN, Sheela is a Post graduate in Music from Bangalore University and is a Gold Medallist. She is also a TOP RANK artist in Light Music. Sheela has been regularly giving concerts all over India and also in Radio Sangeeth Sammelan and National Programmes. She has given number of performances in USA, Canada, Middle East and London . Madras Music Academy, during 1997, adjudged Sheela as an "Outstanding Senior Female Vocalist" , Karnataka state has honored Sheela by giving " Rajyotsava Award ", Karnataka State Film Chambers has given an award to Sheela as, " Best Female Play Back Singer " for the year 97-98. Charulatha Ramanujam – Violin Charulatha is one of the well known and sought after younger violinists in Carnatic Music. She was initiated into violin learning from Vidwan Pudukottai Ramanathan of the Rajamanikyam Pillai School and later had advanced training from Vidwan Anoor S. Ramakrishna. She has accompanied many of the leading Carnatic musicians in the leading Sabhas all over India. She is regularly featured on the TV and Radio stations in India. Anoor Anantha Krishna Sharma- Mridangam Anantha Krishna Sharma ( popularly known as Shivu) was born to a family of musicians. He is considered as an eminent percussionist (mridangam) in the whole of India. His father late Vidwan Anoor S. Ramakrishna was a well-known violinist. He was initiated in Mridangam by vidwan R. A. Rajagopal. Drawing on his long concert career from an early age of fifteen and a number of significant encounters with other great musicians, Anantha Krishna Sharma is known for his own style. B.S. Arun Kumar – Morsing Hails from a music family, Inspired by his father Sri B.S.Sukumar who is a drummer, ventured into the field of Percussion music at the tender age of 7. Later received training under Sri.S.V.Giridhar and presently taking advanced training in percussions under the rich guidance of eminent artist Layakala Pratibhamani Sri Anoor Ananthakrishna Sharma.
