A LL A R E W E LC O M E About the Artist for the Evening Sri Shivkumar Kalyanaraman began his violin training in 1983 at the Secunderabad Music College under the guidance of Sri Peri Sreeramamurthy, a top violinist in Hyderabad. . He completed a certificate course in music and continued his training with Smt T. Rukmini in Madras during his studies at IIT Madras. He has also been mentored by vocalists Shri M N Subramanium of the Semmangudi schooland Shri BRC Iyengaar of the Ariyakudi school. He has performed several concerts in Albany and other parts of USA and has accompanied visiting artistes like T R Subramanium , Ashok Ramani., Jayalakshmi Ramachandran, and others. He is a regular contributor to music concerts and lec-cum-demos in the Capital District. He has developed a website that is internationally acclaimed as one of the best to learn and appreciate carnatic music. His website gets about 25000 hits every year all over the world. Particularly impressive is his Vishnu Shasranama Stotram with meanings ( 1000 names of Lord Vishnu in poetic form in Sanskrit). He conducts violin and vocal carnatic music classes at RPI campus where he is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering. Directions to Hall in RPI, Campus, Troy, NY. Come on Route 7 East and in Troy it becomes Hoosick Street. Watch for signs of RPI and turn right into 15th Street. Pass a few lights and you will see the RPI Student Union at the intersection of 15th Street and Sage Street, (There is a light at this intersection). .Mothers. is located in the Student Union in the basement. You can park anywhere at that hour on a Saturday. It was a treat to hear him. Pallavi thanks Meena and Thiagarajan for hosting the artists, Ramani Raghavachari for organizing social hour, M. Everyone who attended it thoroughly enjoyed the concert. She mentioned that the venue of Hindu Temple and the presence of all deities gave her tremendous inspiration. She was accompanied by Bhaskar on violin and J.Vaidyanathan on mridangam. Many people volunteered with services to make it happen. Pallavi is grateful to Poornima and Ajayan for hosting the artists for three days. Thiyagarajan Subramanian superbly handled the audio system.
