What started off with a handful of music lovers, it has grown into a viable well run organization catering to the classical music and dance needs of Capital District Community, Pallavi has organized about 100 classical music and dance programs . All this has been possible due to the excellent support of the community and a host of volunteers. Let us celebrate the Tenth year in the best possible way and we hope all of you will chip in helping us out in various tasks to make this year as the Banner Year. We need both physical and financial help to carry out an ambitious program this year. New Board and Office Bearers At the last general body meeting held on November 19, 2005 the following members were elected unanimously to Pallavi Board: Janaki Krishnamoorthy, Kirtivasan Nagarajan, G. Ramanath, Lakshmi Ravichandran, Dileep Sathyanarayana, Thiyagarajan Subramanian, N.Sukumar and Venkat Venkataramani. The following existing Directors will continue for 2006 year: Mangala Puranik, M.Raghavachari, M.Krishnamoorthy, Vidya Subramanian, Kasi Krishnan, Narayan Nair, Nalini Madiwale, Shiv Kalyanaraman and Jayasimha Kannambille. The general body appreciated the services of the following outgoing Directors: Ramani Mani, Rama Ramani, Swatantra Mitta, Harihar Iyer, Raj Addepalli, Mattur Balakrishna and Ravi Pilar. . . Raghavachari Grant from Arts center and New York Art Council This year also Pallavi was awarded a grant of $ 2000 for 2006 to organize the Bharatanatyam dance concert by Vasantha Krishnan and party. The artist group is from Nrityalaya dance school in Montreal, Canada. Thanks are due to Thiyagarajan Subramanian and MS Krishnamoorthy for writing an excellent proposal for the grant. 10th Thyagaraja Aradhana on Saturday May 6, 2006 The tenth Thyagaraja Aradhana will be conducted on Saturday May 6 at the Hindu Temple ,Albany. As per the tradition this will be a joint event with the Temple. As usual, there will be a rendering of Thyagaraja Pancharatna kritis and individual presentations in the morning. In the evening, there will be a vocal concert by Sri T.V. Ramprasadh with Mysore Srikanth on violin and Tiruvarur Vaidyanathan on mridangam. The concert is on .Thyagaraja Ramayana. where Thyagaraja kritis and Ramayana slide show are simultaneously presented. Pancharatna kriti practice and Registration for Individual Presentations Vidya Subramanian will be coordinating the Pancharatna kriti part of Thyagaraja Aradhana and of you are interested in practicing for the event, please contact her at ksubramanian@nycap.rr.com or phone 373-9037. If you wish to participate in the individual presentations, please call Janaki Krishnamoorthy (273-6624) or Ramani Raghavachari (899-9672) and register your name and the Thyagaraja kriti that you wish to sing. Neyveli Santhanagoplan Vocal concert in Fall 2006 (To be confirmed) Report on Last year.s events We had a successful year during 2005 and we organized nine concerts and events. We organized carnatic music concerts, two Hindusthani concerts and two concerts by local artists, The carnatic music concerts include Thyagaraja Aradhana, and two major concerts by Aruna Sairam and TN Krishnan.s violin concert. GE Matching Gifts Program In 2003 we received approval from General Electric Corporation to be part of their gift matching program. GE employees and retirees enthusiastically responded to our call in 2005 and we were able to collect $ 1224 from them as gifts. Pallavi has obtained tax exemption status under section 501(c) of the IRS code. Pallavi board members are doing their best to bring in talented musicians to our area. It costs more (especially after September 11, 2001) to bring artists from India. Please consider paying your membership dues early in the year so that we can estimate our revenue position better. Notes about members and other events in the Capital District 1. Vidya Subramanian, Carnatic vocalist and music teacher living in Clifton Park, was in India during this December season to perform concerts. She performed at leading venues in Chennai such as Brahma Gana sabha, Kapali fine arts, Bharatiya vidya Bhavan, TTD Information center and Ramana Kendra. Her concerts were well received and she was profiled on Chennaionline.com, a leading internet site in the city.
