Newsletter 1/2007 January 13. 2007 PALLAVI WISHES YOU A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR The First Decade Pallavi proudly completed the Tenth Year of activities. What started off with a handful of music lovers, it has grown into a viable well run organization catering to the classical music and dance needs of Capital District Community, Pallavi has organized more than 100 classical music and dance programs . All this has been possible due to the excellent support of the community and a host of volunteers. Let us step into the Second decade in the best possible way and we hope all of you will chip in helping us out in various tasks to make this New Year as another Banner Year. We need both physical and financial help to carry out an ambitious program this year. After approx . 8 -9 miles, Rt.146 turns left to continue as the local Balltown Road. HOWEVER , YOU NEED TO GO STRAIGHT through the traffic light. You are now on Glen ridge Road. After the second Railroad overpass, you will come to Maple Ave.and traffic lights. Make a LEFT turn at Maple Ave. After approx 1/2 mile, RIGHT turn at Ronald Reagan Way . You will cross the Railroad tracks and Air National Guard airport will be visible. Bear RIGHT onto Jordan Lane Follow Jordan Lane until it ends at Mountainwood Drive. LEFT turn onto Mountainwood Drive. Follow to #10 - on the left side, at the corner of Mountainwood and Glenwood Drive. Our last name and house # are on the mailbox. From I-890 --take the ERIE BOULEVARD exit. and follow the Erie Blvd signs around ramp. Stay on Erie. Blvd ( approx. 7 lights) to fork in road. Bear LEFT to cross the Freeman's Bridge over the Mohawk River. At second light, RIGHT turn on to Maple Avenue ( Stewarts store and gas station at far right corner) Take first LEFT on to Ronald Reagan Way. We organized six carnatic music concerts, one Hindusthani concert, and a Bharatanatyam program by mrityalaya dance School. Canada and one program by Pallavi community members. The music concerts include Thyagaraja Aradhana, and three major concerts by Ashwini Bhide, S.Sowmya and Sudha Raghunathan.. Grant from Community Art$ Connection and New York State Art Council Happy to inform you that Pallavi will receive a grant of $ 1500 for 2007 to organize a vocal concert by Sri Madurai Sundar. Pallavi is grateful to M. Raghavachari for preparing the proposal and seeing it through. Upcoming Concerts: .1. Hindusthani Vocal Dhrupad concert by Uday Bhavalkar on March 25. Details soon. GE employees and retirees enthusiastically responded to our call in 2006 and we were able to collect $ 1502 from them as gifts. Pallavi has obtained tax exemption status under section 501(c) of the IRS code. Pallavi board members are doing their best to bring in talented musicians to our area. It costs more (especially after September 11, 2001) to bring artists from India. Please consider paying your membership dues early in the year so that we can estimate our revenue position better. Also please become a Family Patron member or even better Promoter/Sponsor class member.
