Multi-source Fusion in Omics 2013

Call For Papers

Multi-source Fusion in Omics (MFO 2013)

Technological advances in biological data acquisition and collection in the past two decades have resulted in a vast amount of biological data. The availability of these exponentially-growing omics datasets brings up the challenge to integrate information from multiple sources in a unified framework in bioinformatics. Recent work in bioinformatics benefits from integration of heterogeneous biological datasets including genomic, proteomic, transcriptomic, metabolomic and interactomic data in order to make more accurate inferences. New data mining and machine learning techniques built for integration of omics datasets can lead to new insights into biological domain.

This special session on Multi-source Fusion in Omics focuses on new data mining and machine learning methods to extract novel information from integration of omics datasets. The topics of the special session include, but not limited to, algorithms and applications for:

  • Genomic data fusion, genome-phenome data fusion,
  • Comparative genomics and phylogenomics via genomic data integration,
  • Gene expression analysis and genome-wide association analysis,
  • Integration of gene expression data with regulatory and metabolic pathways, and with protein-protein interaction networks,
  • Integration of proteomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic data for systems biology,
  • Integration of clinical datasets with omics datasets,
  • Personalized medicine via mining gene-drug interactions,
  • Detection of metabolic pathways from multiple protein interaction networks,
  • Integration of data mined from biomedical literature to enrich omics datasets,
  • Mining massive heterogeneous omics datasets.

Journal Special Issues

All papers will be published at the conference proceedings. Journal versions of selected papers from the workshop will be invited to be submitted to a special issue of a high-impact journal in bioinformatics. Targeted journals are 1) BMC Bioinformatics, and 2) Network Modeling Analysis in Health Informatics and Bioinformatics.

Paper submission

Please prepare your papers in IEEE 2-column format using the following templates: http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html. The papers should be 8 pages at most. You can submit your papers through the IEEE FUSION 2013 paper submission system. For detailed paper submission instructions, see IEEE FUSION 2013 paper submission site.

Review Process

One program committee member from MFO’13 and two program committee members from IEEE FUSION’13 will review each paper submission. The decision will be made based on these three reviews.
