Digital Microfluidic System (DMFS) Animations
Animations
The MPEG animations below are the multimedia extensions that accompany the
paper:
``Coordinating Multiple Droplets in Planar
Array Digital Microfluidic Systems,'' E. J. Griffith and S. Akella,
International Journal of Robotics Research, Vol. 24,
No. 11, pages 933--949, November 2005. pdf , bib
.
Each animation depicts the
system running an example reaction.
These animations depict a DNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
example run on the array. The layouts have two sinks along the right
side. Each droplet is typically depicted as a small square, and the
color of a droplet indicates its droplet type. When two droplets are
mixed, the mixed droplet type is indicated by its unique color.
-
Animation 1 (mpeg) : PCR reaction, in batch mode. Waste droplets are
depicted as blue diamonds.
-
Animation 2 (mpeg) : PCR reaction, in continuous mode.
-
Animation 3 (mpeg) : Two reactions running in parallel (continuous
mode). Droplets of the PCR reaction are depicted as squares and
droplets of the second reaction are depicted as diamonds.
-
Animation 4 (mpeg) : Unstable PCR example (continuous mode), showing the
system reaching a deadlock state. The animation is shown from an
intermediate stage.
