CSCI 1190 Policies

• Academic Dishonesty: If you do not know what constitutes academic dishonesty, consult the current Rensselaer Handbook of Student Rights and Responsibilities. Students caught cheating will receive penalties as follows:
  • First offense: the student will receive a grade of 0 on the assignment, exam, or project on which the offense occurred. A letter summarizing the incident will be placed in student's permanent file in the CS Department and in the Office of the Dean of Students.

  • Second offense: the student will receive a grade of "F" for the course and a second letter will be placed in the student's permanent files.

• Statement on Plagiarism: An often misunderstood form of academic dishonesty is plagiarism, which is commonly defined as the act of passing off as one's own, the ideas, words, etc. of another. In accordance with this definition, you are committing plagiarism if you copy the work of another person and turn it is as your own, even if you have the permission of that person.
