Welcome to Computer Science 1 - Fall 2022¶
Attending class¶
After multiple semesters under COVID protocols, we are delighted to announce that we are returning to some semblance of normalcy for fall semester 2022. CSCI-1100 will feature traditional in-person lectures, labs, and office hours; although, we will continue to offer remote services for those of you who end up under quarantine for some part of the semester.
It is important to note that we do not take attendance at our large lectures. It is impractical and you are all adults with the ability to make your own decisions. However, after multiple semesters of COVID protocols, I think your instructors are unanimous in believing that in-person classes better support student engagement and improve outcomes – it is impossible to stop a video presentation to ask a question. That said, videos do allow us to support students temporarily under quarantine and allow those of you who want to review the material to do so. Accordingly, you can find our archived video lectures at:

In the event that things come crashing down and we return to remote instruction, you will need our WebEx meeting rooms.

Attending lab¶
Labs will be held in person and attendance is mandatory. Rooms will be assigned by the Registrar and can be also found at Lecture and Lab Schedule. Specific policies can be found in the syllabus below.
Attending office hours¶
Unless explicitly noted, most office hours will allow both in person and remote attendance. We will use the Submitty Office hours queue. To get help, sign into the Submitty Office Hours Queue using Office Hours as the access code. If you are attending remotely, place your WebEx room address in the Contact Information field. If you are attending in person, simply put “In Person”. You will be contacted by the next available TA or Mentor.
The exception to this is for instructor office hours. We will generally be in our offices for in person office hours or in our WebEx rooms for online office hours at the scheduled time. If you need other times, or if you need to meet remotely during regularly scheduled in person times, please reach out to us in advance so we can make arrangements.
