CVPR 2003: Transportation

Transportation to Madison

The Dane County Regional Airport is located 10 miles from downtown Madison, and is served by several major airlines through direct flights or connections from Milwaukee, Chicago, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Denver, Dallas and Detroit. (United, United Express, American/American Eagle, Northwest, Midwest Express, Comair/Delta Connection)

Free shuttle services are provided by both the Hilton and the Concourse hotels. A phone bank with direct phone lines to most area hotels is located near the baggage claim area of the airport.

Taxis are generally available at the airport if you do not desire to wait for a hotel shuttle or if you are staying in the student dormitory. A typical cab ride to downtown takes 15 minutes depending on time of day and costs $15 - $20. If a taxi is not already waiting outside you can contact one to pick you up.

Union Cab: (608)255-5100
Madison Taxi: (608)252-8294

If you prefer to fly to Chicago or Milwaukee you will need to rent a car or take a bus to Madison. The Van Galder Bus runs between Chicago O'Hare Airport and the Memorial Union on the University of Wisconsin campus. It takes about 3 hours 15 minutes and makes about 5 stops in between. The cost is $22 one-way, $44 round-trip. The Badger Bus runs between Milwaukee's Mitchell Airport and Madison. It takes about 2 hours 15 minutes and makes about 6 stops between the airport and the University of Wisconsin Memorial Union. The cost $15 one-way, $28 round-trip. The Memorial Union is walking distance to the Chadbourne Hall dormitory and a short ride up State Street to the conference hotels.

Transportation In and Around Madison

The hotels are within walking distance of the Monona Terrace and taxis are widely available in the downtown area. There is also excellent public transportation on Madison Metro, which serves all of Madison. Rental cars are also available from most major rental car companies. Parking is available at the Hilton Monona Terrace for $8/day for guests. Other public parking is available, but space is limited.
