FAZIL HÜSNÜ DAGLARCA
Seçme Siirler * Selected Poems

Translated by Talat Sait Halman

Daha Us

     Nice emse emdirse, anlam soyunuk.

Bir kurt ulumaz, ama kýllarý delice büyür,
     Bakýmsýz ormanlara, maðaralara, soyunuk.

Yetmiyor, yetmiyor bana bu yeryüzü yalnýzlýðý,
     Burda bütün sevdiklerim soyunuk.

More Wisdom

He hurls rocks at months and days from the planets.
In his palms the blindest faith -- starknaked.

Hand down a scale and another from the millenium.
The starving treasures of Darius are starknaked.

Neither do babes suck, nor mothers give milk.
No matter if the baby sucks. Meaning is starknaked.

A wolf does not howl, but his hair grows delirious.
Into the slovenly jungles and caves -- starknaked.

Earth's solitude is not enough. It cannot satisfy me.
Down here everything I love is starknaked.
